Angler’s Education

The CFFCM Angler’s Education Program provides the novice to accomplished angler the opportunity to advance their skill and technique through a variety of courses aimed to educate and enhance enjoyment on and off the water. Course sessions vary.

Fundamentals of Fly Casting
with Paul and Gail Gallo

Two-Handed Switch and Spey Casting

A day of interactive two-handed casting lessons, detailing in basic casts to others needed for each student to begin their time enjoying fly fishing with confidence with switch and spey rods.
This class is for everyone interested in learning or advancing in the two-handed fly fishing sport. The day is devoted for each student to advance their current abilities, while coming way with a better understanding of the dynamics needed for smooth and optimal casting.

Kid’s Nature Journaling (ages 9-14)
with Nicole Seymour

Does your child like the outdoors? Nature journaling is a mixed media activity that is both creative and educational. Each child participating will find a new perspective on the outdoors as they combine art with learning. This morning session will include rock painting and nature journal activities such as sketching, watercolor, drawing and nature walk outdoors (weather pending). Additional activities will be included based on weather forecast. Supplies include: blank writing journal, rocks, paint, paintbrushes, watercolor set, small snacks. Participants will be able to take home their journal at the end of the class to continue their educational adventure.

Introduction to Watercolor Painting
with Nicole Seymour

Have you been interested in taking up water color painting? This course will cover the basic skills for beginners. Topics covered include discussion of mixing colors and how to use a color wheel, wash techniques, lifting color, simple sketch instruction, and techniques for painting outdoor and riverside landscapes. Supplies include: set of watercolors, watercolor paper pad, palette, and paint brushes. They are included in course fee and yours to take home at the end of the class.

Targeting the largest freshwater predators (Musky, Tiger Musky, Northern Pike) on fly gear is rapidly gaining popularity. These elusive fish necessitate powerful gear and big flies, and can challenge an angler’s physical and mental fortitude. Learn about what it takes to catch them on flies in lakes or rivers.

Nymphing 2.0

Nymphing 2.0 is an updated version of the nymphing principals discussed in George’s Book, “Dynamic Nymphing.” The focus of the program is rising without a suspension device (aka indicator). Like all other tactics, tight line nymphing has its advantages/disadvantages and nymphing 2.0 describes the conditions suited for this technique versus conditions more suited towards suspension tactics. Understand hydraulics, casting, presentation, patterns, and rigs are covered during this program.

Graphite Rod Building
with Ray Cote

Make a graphite rod in size and weight of your choice (no spey rods) in only two days and bring it home. Students will also bring home their rod wrapping rack so they can build another when they get home.
Includes: all rod making components, rod wrapping rack, over night stay in bunk house, lunch the first day and continental breakfast the following morning. Instructor Ray Cote has over 20 years experience in teaching graphite rod construction and is well respected in the rod building community.
